TinFish Band - Instrumental soul from the heart of Atlanta

Grown from the fertile musical soil of the dirty south. Tinfish is an instrumental quartet blending elements of vintage soul and blues with danceable rhythms and down home melodies.

Formed by longtime Delta Moon guitarist Mark Johnson and influenced by the sound of session masters from the 60's. The tinfish sound pays homage to groups like Booker T and the M.G.s, Link Wray, and the Meters while looking forward to the likes of modern instrumental wizards Khruangbin and  Hermanos Guitarrez. Slide guitar and swirling organ mesh together over funky drums and bass for a hearty musical stew that's hard to deny.

Introducing TinFish

Mark Johnson

Guitar

Guitarist Mark Johnson, a founding member of the award-winning, international touring band, Delta Moon, now tours Europe with Peter Karp band. While off the road, Mark fires up the band TinFish, a deeply personal, creative and artistic outlet for the slide, blues, funk guitarist.

Chris Case

Keyboard / Organ

Atlanta keys player Christo Case has been tickling ivories and taking names for decades across the southeast and beyond. Lending a vintage flavor to a host of groups like  progressive folksters Little Tybee and soul singer Curtis Harding. A stalwart sideman that brings fierce chops steeped in a passion for yesteryear and an ear for the moment.

Celeste Smith

Bass

After playing with local Atlanta bands Mystery Cassette and Chickens and Pigs, Celeste found her musical SOUL mates in the TinFish project.  Inspired by female players like Tina Weymouth, Laura Lee and Kim Gordon, Celeste is all about the groovy pocket and meshes perfectly with the rhythmic style of her partner-in-crime drummer David Kaiser.

David Kaiser

Drums

After making a name for himself playing percussion in various local bands around Atlanta for 25+ yrs, Dave (aka Bongo Dave) has found a firm seat behind the drum kit laying down the pocket with his funky grooves.  This groove oriented approach is what helped shape the sound of TinFish, bringing a blend of funk / soul to everything he creates.  "Making people feel something that forces them to move and dance, that's what drives my passion."
